Armed Carjacker Dies While Fleeing Police, Mom Demands Answers: ‘He Was Not A Criminal’

In January 2019, Dion Lamar Taylor, 20, was fatally struck by a Baltimore County police car while fleeing a carjacking with two others. Taylor and his accomplices had carjacked a pizza delivery driver in Woodlawn.

After a police chase, the suspects jumped out of the moving car at the intersection of Northern Parkway and Highgate Drive. One police cruiser struck Taylor as he ran, and the officers involved followed protocol, according to authorities.

Taylor’s mother, Teisha Cook, demanded answers, insisting her son was not a criminal, but rather a homebody. A handgun was thrown from the car during the chase, and one suspect, 16-year-old Taron Kelly, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and other offenses. The third suspect remains at large. The officer involved in the crash was placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
