Herbie’s journey has been one of immense struggle and resilience. His promising future as a saxophonist was derailed in sixth grade when he injured his hand, making it nearly impossible to play. Years of rehabilitation followed before he regained his ability to command the saxophone again.
His life took a darker turn with drug abuse, leading to periods of homelessness. After being kicked out of his home due to his addiction, Herbie drifted as a struggling musician, playing scattered gigs to survive and support his habits.
Eventually, Herbie felt a calling for something greater. He recalls a turning point in his life when he turned to God, saying, “You’ve given me this talent, I need some direction.” From that day, he became a devoted artist, frequently assisting at homeless shelters and using his music to inspire others.
Herbie’s voice, reminiscent of Joe Cocker, brought his performance of “With A Little Help From My Friends” to life. Simon Cowell offered some keen advice, noting the risk in his choice. However, Herbie’s uncanny vocal similarity to Cocker proved to be a fortunate coincidence, one that he skillfully capitalized on.
